Introduction
The eCommerce is not just about creating a Shopify store, importing products and advertise on Facebook to become the next Bill Gates within weeks. No ! It is more complicated than that, it requires a good starting capital, investment in time and money, product research, building a professional store, hiring professional people, working on its brand awareness, … You have to think out of the box.
If you are a beginner without a starting budget, the first impression you will have in mind is looking for some Free guidance on Youtube. This is great ! you may come across a good Youtubers who give valuable advices but the bad thing is 90%+ of these Youtubers may be fake gurus, and could most likely guide you in a wrong way for their personal benefit.
How Fake Youtube gurus earn money ?
These fake gurus are very smart in just one thing. They are smart in the field of psychology because they know how the mind works, especially the weak-minded people who will follow these fake gurus like sheep. The fake gurus on Youtube are in it to increase their subscribers, their videos views to earn more money from Google ads, sponsored videos, affiliate links and from ebook and courses.
Why fake gurus have chosen Youtube ?
Many fake eCommerce gurus have never run any eCommerce store in their life or they have failed to succeed, so they will look for another “easier” way to earn money, and making Youtube videos is one of them, the will pretend to be successful or even millionaires to easily drive people to watch their videos
So how to spot the fake Youtube gurus and avoid being scammed to minimize the risk of failure in eCommerce ? Below are some of the red flags to spot them
1- Fancy Youtuber Chanel name
This is the first thing a fake eCommerce Youtube guru does when he opens his Chanel, he will try to catch the audience with a fancy username, such as (the king of, … the lord of, … mastermind, … masterclass, … hunter, …)
2- He/she always talks about Get Rich Quick Schema
It is all about psychology, our mind tends to follow the easiest ways to succeeded in something, if for instance I told you that you need 7 years to become a doctor and someone else told you can become a doctor in only 3 months if you go to X university ? who would you believe ? Of course you will chose the shorten path, and this is exactly fake eCommerce gurus do, they will always try to instill that eCommerce is easy and you can get rich very quickly by doing this or that method.
So getting rich quick is a big red flag
3- No REAL online business
One of the biggest red flag about fake gurus is the fact that they don’t have any ongoing online eCommerce business or never had it in the past, have you even come across one of those Youtubers told you I am the owner of this x business ? And shows you the business website link ? most likey no ! For the simple reason that they don’t have any eCommerce business, and their only business is you, the more you watch their videos, the more they earn
4- Lot of Affiliate links in video description
An affiliate link is a specific URL that contains the affiliate’s ID or username. In affiliate programs, advertisers use affiliate links to record the traffic that is sent to the advertiser’s website. One you get to that website and place an order, the referrer (the Youtuber in this case) will earn a commission
This is not bad, in fact even big companies earn extra cash from affiliate links and this is legal 100% as soon as you point your audience to a legit website.
But the issue with fake eCommerce Youtube gurus is that they put lof of affiliate links in their videos description to earn more money, they won’t care about what this is or what is its reputation.
In most of case you may think that this Youtuber is legit, he is giving us Free advises, but in reality he is just advertising and trying to lead you to those affiliate links
5- He/she uploads a Youtube video almost everyday
I can be a successful online entrepreneur and I can give you Free guidance on Youtube for Free from time to time, this is great… but if I upload a Youtuber video almost everyday, how could I manage my real online business ? Red flag here
If a Youtuber is uploading a professional video almost everyday, with all the time spent to create thumbnaisl, description, video editing, … it means just one thing, his full time job is Youtube and not an online entrepreneur selling goods on his Shopify store
6- Was broke, but found a mentor who guided him/her
psychology is On here, Fake eCommerce Youtube gurus target weak people without or with a tiny starting budget, they know their audience needs and feeling, they will try to tell them, that you may be broke now, but if you follow my path you will be as rich and as successful as I am now.
It is just a sales pitch here. In selling technique, a sales presentation or sales pitch is a line of talk that attempts to persuade someone or something, with a planned sales presentation strategy of a product or service designed to initiate and close a sale of the product or service.
And the product here, will be his own mentorship program… you are broke, you need a mentor then like I did to become rich so get in into my program and I will show you the secrets.
7- Selling eCommerce courses
selling courses is not bad as soon as I am selling high quality content, SEO Technics, best strategies to overcome competitors, …
But the issue with fake gurus is that they are selling you something not verified, not even used by themselves and in most cases, it would be just an upsell for other courses or affiliate links.
Some of those fake gurus pretend to be millionaires already or even multi-millionaires, so why they would bother selling a “cheap” course if they could apply these Technics themselves to increase their revenue ? Bid red flag here
8- Fake success story
How my audience could believe me, trust me and follow me so I can sell them my stuff easily ? Well, it is is easy, let me show them some fancy cars, beautiful girls, beautiful mansion…
In most cases, expensive goods and properties don’t belong to these fake gurus, they are rented for some videos shooting to drive you to their fancy and unrealistic world.
So be careful ! This is another big red flag
9- Using keywords such as (mastermind, masterclass, secrets, …)
How can I sell you my course easily and increase its price ? mmm ! Let me name it for example (the eCom Secrets to making 7 figures in only one month), more attractive and appealing hum !
This is how many of these fake gurus will name their courses, programs, … they will sell you some SECRETS, hidden for public, not available anywhere, never been posted in any website or blog, but you will have the privilege to unveil and apply these secrets if you buy the course.
If you come across such keywords, just run away, it is another big red flag.
10 – Fake sales screenshot
How I made 1,000.000$ in just 3 weeks ? Have you already came across a screenshot or a Youtube thumbnail like that ? Be careful, this could be fake
Most of people don’t know it yet, but you can fake sales & number of orders in just few minutes, take a look at the below video on how one of our developer could fake a 1M$+ sales in just one minute
11- A business without any employees
Well ! This fake eCommerce guru is a multimillionaire right ? he is doing like 1000 orders/ day through his multiple Shopify stores, OK ! That is great ! But he is working alone ! Oh wow ! He just forgot to add that to his success story.
Let’s do some simple maths with some basic metrics, to see if you can work alone or not.
If you are processing 1000 orders per day, you would expect :
Support emails
- 50 customers emails per day if your customers contact rate is at 5%
- If your conversion rate is about 2%, then you have 50000 visits/day, if your prospect contact rate is about 0.5%, then you will expect to have about 250 prospect emails and questions per day
- If your return rate customers contact is about 1%, then you will have about 10 emails per day
The total number of emails to expect per day is about 310, If you add a redundancy rate about (1.5%), a redundancy rate is the rate at which a customer will contact you again or reply to your answer, then the final total emails to expect per day when processing 1000 orders per day is 310 x 1.5 = 465 emails/day
Processing orders
- Say you’re so quick and you use some automated apps and you are dropshipping, if you make about 2 minutes to process one order, then you will need 1000 x 2 = 2000 minutes, which is about 33 hours to process all the orders and per day if you are working alone
With just these simple metrics, you need about 12 employees (40 mails/day to each one) for email support and 4 other employees to process orders (8 hours/day), so in total you need 16 employees if you are making 1000 orders a day
Big red flag here too, this fake gurus is working alone and he is making 1000 orders/day + he is full time working on his Youtuber channel
Conclusion
Starting an online business is more complicated that you may think, getting free advice from Youtubers who could be fake in most cases and could be by consequence a big damage to your business, and if you are looking to know more about these fake gurus I invite you to watch Coffezzila Youtube Chanel
